Sixth round of talks on Association Agreement takes place in Chisinau

The sixth round of talks on the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU is held in Chisinau today, April 11. The Moldovan delegation is led by Deputy Foreign Minister Natalia Gherman, who is the chief negotiator on behalf of Moldova, while the delegation of the European Union – by Managing Director for Europe and Central Asia of the European Commission's European External Action Service Mirosalv Lajcak, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the Parliament's press service, the agenda of the meeting includes issues concerning the activity of the joint working groups. The two delegations will hold discussions on such subjects as economic and field cooperation, justice, political dialogue, and reforms. After the fifth round of talks that took place in Brussels on February 17, Natalia Gherman said that 20 of the 24 chapters that are being negotiated can be temporarily closed. They include the reform of the public administration, cooperation in the environment and transport, and several elements of the taxation system. The Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU has three components: the political agreement, the free trade agreement and the agreement on the liberalization of the visa regime. The plan of action on visa regime liberalization was approved by the European Commission on December 16, 2010.
