The Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) and the Ministry of the Interior foiled an attempt to put 2,000 SIM cards of a foreign mobile phone carrier into circulation in Moldova and in limitrophe states, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from the SIS, the SIM cards were transmitted through a contraband network through the agency of a conductor of an international train. The suspect arrested on the platform of the Chisinau Railway Terminal turned out to be a Moldovan national.
Given that the legislation of some countries provides that a telephonic card with number can be issued exclusively based on an identification document, the cards were purchased and registered in the name of a foreign economic entity.
An investigation is under way.
