SIS officers are behind discrediting of inconvenient people, former foreign spy chief

Retired colonel of the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) Alexei Serebryanski, former foreign spy chief, said that, for four years now, he has been warning the country's leadership and law enforcement agencies and also society about the fact that "the Security and Intelligence Service is involved in particularly serious crimes in the field of state security". According to him, there is evidence that high-ranking officers of the SIS are behind the discrediting of inconvenient people, IPN reports.

"I provided evidence showing that high-ranking officers of the SIS are behind the crimes of discrediting inconvenient people, with the use of journalists and so-called experts who manipulate public opinion. I warned that the SIS is involved in corruption schemes, smuggling, in the disclosure of secret information, through various anonymous Telegram channels, and other illegalities. The current SIS, instead of being the state institution that is concerned, according to the law, with the protection of state security, represents the main risk and threat to national security," Alexei Serebryanski said in a news conference hosted by IPN.

The retired colonel noted that, based on his complaints, prosecutors started criminal cases, carried out searches and other criminal investigation measures, and also detained a SIS officer who allegedly provided information from the SIS to a journalist. "Unfortunately, neither the leadership of the SIS nor the leadership of the country during these four years has taken a stance on the existence on an organized criminal group within the SIS and did not do anything to stop these crimes," said the former foreign spy chief.

He referred to alleged security leaks, people from the SIS who are supposedly involved, including their modus operandi. According to him, secret information from operational files concerning his activity within the SIS was published on a Telegram channel. As a result, he filed a complaint with the Prosecutor General's Office about the leakage of secret information from operational files. However, the prosecutors are facing enormous pressure from the SIS’s leadership to stop all investigations.

"Today it no longer makes sense to address the leadership of the Republic of Moldova due to the incompetence of the government, which tolerates and promotes these criminals. I cannot address the opposition either because there is no opposition in the Republic of Moldova," said Alexei Serebryanski. He called on the citizens to unmask the irregularities committed by the SIS. Or, in his opinion, ahead of next year's parliamentary elections, the intensity of the disseminated nonsense will increase.
