The simple motion against Minister of Justice Sergiu Litvinenco proposed by the MPs of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists wasn’t supported by the parliamentary majority. The MPs of Șor Party didn’t take part in the vote, IPN reports.
Minister Litvinenco stated in Parliament that the motion is full of falsehoods. He is blamed for not managing to do the justice sector reform during the two months since he took up his duties. It happens because he does not want to lay the basis for fair justice on the rotten remains of the corrupt system left by the previous government.
In the session of questions and answers, the minister said that a lot is to be done in the justice sector in the near future. They aim to build an institution that will fight grand corruption according to the model of Romanian’s National Anticorruption Directorate. For the purpose, the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office and the National Anticorruption Center will be merged or restructured in the middle of 2022. A correct procedure for designating the future chief prosecutor of this institution, with the involvement of international experts, will be instituted.
Sergiu Litvinenco said that the extraordinary assessment of judges and prosecutors will be implemented as from next summer so as to clear the system of people with integrity problems. “We will reform the Supreme Court of Justice by reorganizing it into a court of cassation with a low number of judges,” he stated.
BSC MP Alexandr Suhodolski said Sergiu Litvinenco is still in the election campaign as his messages are electoral in character. The current government’s actions represent capture of the justice system. These actions include the exclusion of the prosecutor of Gagauzia from the composition of the Superior Council of Prosecutors so as to later remove an inconvenient person.
Șor Party MP Denis Ulanov said their group will not take part in the debates on the simple motion that is connected with the suspension and arrest of Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo. “We and others know that citizen Stoianoglo acted against Mister Jardan and against me for other reasons than those related to justice,” he stated, noting that their group’s participation in the examination of the motion can be interpreted as a conflict of interest. He said that in general, their opinion about the whole Cabinet is negative.
The simple motion put forward by the BSC MPs says the minister of justice politically subjugated the judiciary and tries to gain control over the Prosecutor General’s Office. Moreover, the opposition accuses Litvinenco of orchestrating particular developments related to the case of Stoianoglo, through his position at the meeting of the Superior Council of Prosecutors the day the prosecutor general was arrested.
