A significant increase in air traffic was recorded at the end of last year. In December, nearly 331,000 passengers boarded and disembarked, marking a 60% increase compared to December 2023, IPN reports.
Chisinau International Airport stated that there were 2,625 landings and takeoffs during the last month of the year. The most popular destination in December 2024 was Sharm El Sheikh, with 13,051 passengers. This was followed by London (11,399 passengers), Milan (11,145 passengers), Istanbul (10,881 passengers), Venice (9,491 passengers), and others.
New destinations attracted nearly 37,000 passengers, accounting for 11.16% of the total passenger traffic. The most popular new routes were Istanbul (SAW) with 10,056 passengers, Abu Dhabi (5,286 passengers), Budapest (3,658 passengers), Prague (2,774 passengers), Riga (2,104 passengers), and Brussels (CRL) with 1,056 passengers.
Additionally, in December 2024, 275.8 tons of cargo were transported, reflecting a 1.4% increase compared to the same period last year.
