Sheriff Tiraspol continues to sign new players. On its official website, the national champion announces that it signed Brazilian halfback Ricardo Cavalcante Mendes Ricardinho. The last time, the 24-year-old footballer played in Poland’s championship for Lechia Gdansk for which he scored seven goals in 27 matches the last season. The Polish press reported that Sheriff paid €350,000 for Ricardinho’s transfer.
Preparing for participation in the Champions League, Sheriff earlier this month signed Bulgarians Ismail Isa and Georgi Georgiev, Brazilians Cadu and Willian Celestino da Silva, and Djibril Paye from Guinea, paying for them over €1 million. But the ‘yellow blacks’ may remain without Serbians Alexandr Pesic and Tomyslav Pajovic, who were borrowed from Israel’s championship.
Meanwhile, Sheriff made changes in the technical staff too. Veaceslav Rusnac, who earlier trained Academia Chisinau and Iskra-Stal Rybnitsa, and Spanish coach Juan Ferrando were named Vitaliy Rashkevich’s assistants.
In the second qualifying round of the Champions League, Sheriff will play against the best team of Montenegro - FK Sutjeska. The first leg match will be played in Tiraspol on July 16 or 17, while the return game abroad on July 23 or 24.
Sheriff also scored the best result among the Moldovan teams in the interclub competitions. In 2009 and 2010, it played in the Europa League groups.
