Sheriff suffered a dramatic defeat in the first-leg match against Hapoel Beer Sheva of the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. The team trained by French coach Bruno Irles lost in Israel 3-2, IPN reports.
Spanish coach Carlos del Cerro Grande awarded three penalties to Sheriff and eliminated Albanese fullback Aliti in the 26th minute, when the score was 1-0 in favor of Moldova’s champion. Even so, the team from Tiraspol had power to score once more.
“I’m satisfied with the play of my team, not yet with the result. I do not want to comment on the refereeing,” Sheriff coach Bruno Irles told a news conference.
The return game between Sheriff and Hapoel Beer Sheva will take place in Tiraspol on July 19.
