Sheriff finished last in Europa League Group E

Sheriff Tiraspol held Dynamo Kyiv to a goalless draw on Wednesday in their last game in Group E of the Europa League, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Ukrainian hosts seemed to dominate the game and were more likely to score on a few occasions, had it not been for Sheriff's defensive and young goalkeeper Dumitru Stajila. Sheriff themselves were very close to scoring late in the game, but Serbians Vladimir Volkov and Vladimir Brankovic and Moldovan Sergei Gheorghiev missed the chance despite very good positions. Sheriff manager Andrei Sosnitsky was disappointed by the overall performance of his team in the Europa League, stressing that both matches against BATE were crucial for Sheriff's qualification, but both were lost. In the other encounter of Group E, AZ Alkmaar defeated BATE 3-0. Like last year, Sheriff gathered five points, but while in 2009 they finished third in the group, now Sheriff are at the bottom. [Final Group E table:] 1. Dynamo – 11 pts 2. BATE – 10 pts 3. AZ – 7 pts 4. Sheriff – 5 pts Dynamo and BATE qualified for the last 16 stage of the Europa League. A draw will be held on December 17 to determine the rivals.
