The Moldova Noastra Allince (MNA) parliamentary representative Anatol Taranu, cited by Info-Prim Neo, asked for the help of the press to inform the civil society and to impede what he has called “madness” and “disorder”. At a press conference Taranu pointed that instead of cutting down the poplars, which are the lungs of the city, the municipality authorities could spray the trees with a special solution that could prevent the spread of the poplar down. He brings the example of Lyon city in France which deals with the same problem, that of the Canadian poplars. According to the deputy, the solution is sprayed only one time and in this way propels don’t produce bloom anymore. At the same press conference The President of MNA, ex-mayor Serafim Urecheanu, stated that during the eleven years of his tenure, citizens have never complained regarding the inconveniences created by the down. The ex-mayor considers that the decision to cut down the trees doesn’t belong to the neither interim Mayor, nor to the Municipality Council but to the government, which took over the administration of the capital. Urecheanu said that the fault for the tree cutting could be recuperated only in 30-40 years. The deputy of the same faction, Veaceslav Untila, declared that the persons responsible for what he called an ecologic crime will have to answer most seriously for their actions. “ The Ecologists, invited by the specialized committee of the Parliament stated that only 10% of 8800 of trees have to be cut on age and illness grounds”, added Untila. The councillors also declared for Info-Prim Neo that they aren’t pleased of the fact that the interim Mayor ascribes the tasks that belong to the Municipality Council. The councillors from the communist’s faction, Vitalie Sacara says that the decision regarding the tree cutting issue must be discussed by the Municipality Council, which reflects the interests of all the capital’s population. Even if the Canadian poplars will be cut down for some reasons, says Sacara, this actions must be done in stages. The councillors of the Popular Christian Democrat Party faction have a negative attitude towards the tree cutting issue. „ Chisinau is one of the few cities with a lot of verdure and now it is being transformed into a common city” said Grebensicov, stating also that the PCDP faction will fight for ending the Canadian poplars cutting actions. „At the next meeting the Municipality Council will discuss very seriously this problem, declared the MNA councillor, Oleg Cernei. He says that Vasile Ursu carries out the decisions of the government using constraint methods. Oleg Cernei, notes that the trees that will replace the poplars weren’t purchased until now and no one knows how the obtained wood is being used. Oleg Cernei also declared that The Municipality Council will verify the way the wood is administrated and the councillors will make some interpellations within the general meeting of the MC upon the trees issue. The independent councillor, Ion Mamaliga, said that the decision of cutting down the trees is arbitrary because it was not discussed with the civil society and with the municipality councillors. He states that The Mayoralty used the easier way, instead of washing the trees with a strong stream of water or spraying them with a special solution. Previously, the president of The Ecologist Move in Chisinau, Pavel Garaba declared for Info-Prim Neo, that the poplar produces 7-fold more oxygen than a fir, giving in only one day the necessary oxygen for nearly 200 persons. Another aspect of the environment purifications, declared the cited source, regards the stable pollutant substances in the soil. These substances are accumulated in the wood tissue of the poplars, remaining there for many years. Due to poplars the average concentration of solid particles in the city’s air is 33, 5% lower then in suburbs. Garaba also stated that the poplar tree is very efficient in solving the underground water issue, a problem which Chisinau faces. Considering that the poplar grows very fast, it consumes much water from the soil, in this way extracting many toxic pollutants. At the moment there is no real evidence that the poplar’s down generates allergy.
