An initiative group of Orthodox Christians from several bishoprics of Moldova said the silence kept by His Holiness Vladimir becomes dangerous. The Christians referred to the lack of position on the planned sexual minorities’ parade and the sexual education books available in school libraries. The Metropolitan Bishop is asked to take steps or to resign as Pope Benedict XVI, IPN reports.

”The enemies of society promote laws similar to that concerning the equality of chances, which allows sadomizing society. But the Metropolitan Bishop keeps silent and this silence becomes more and more dangerous. We consider this is a betraying silence,” the group’s leader, student Dorin Jamba said in a press briefing. According to him, the Metropolitan Church should call society to opposition and confession.

The young man voiced hope that Russian Patriarch Kiril’s visit to Moldova this autumn will change either the attitude of the Metropolitan Church or its administration. 

One of the members of the initiative group, Elena Tishenko, who teaches at the lyceum in Cristesti, Nisporeni, said the Metropolitan Church does not show attitude when necessary either because it is unable to or it is afraid. “Our concerns about your position are increasing as you, Bishop Vladimir, keep silent and take no action. Such a position causes suffering to the Christians,” stated the teacher.

She also said that the initiative group’s aim is not to condemn the Metropolitan Church, but to make it to take attitude. “The current critical situation and the large-scale public events that the homosexuals intend to stage after Low Sunday make us call on you to take steps and to mobilize the Church to a national penance event and to a General Assembly where to agree measures to remedy the situation,” said Elena Tishenko.

The Christians also said that if the Metropolitan Bishop continues to show indifference, he will be considered responsible for the moral-spiritual disaster in the country.
