Seventh-Day Adventist Church to present Bible in Chisinau

The Seventh-Day Adventist Church will hold a biblical program in central Chisinau on Saturday to present the Scripture. The event forms part of the international program “Follow the Bible” that started in Philippines in October 2008 and will end in the United States in 2010. “By 2010, the book will have toured the world,” the secretary of the Pastoral Association, the Euro-Asia Division, Ilie Leahu told a news conference on Monday. “The Bible is an educative book designed to improve morality in the society,” said Andrei Moldovanu, the leader of the Adventist Church in Moldova. The Bible weighs 9 kg, is written in 67 languages and has 39 authors. So far, it has been presented in 77 countries. On Sunday, it reached Moldova. Between August 10 and 15, the Bible will be presented in Cahul, Comrat, Tiraspol, Hancesti, Balti and Chisinau. Recently, the PRO Ortodoxia Association, which said that it expressed the position of the Moldovan Metropolitan Church, asked the Chisinau City Hall not to allow the Adventists to hold a concert. It claimed that such actions will divide the Moldovan society which is 93% formed of Orthodox Christians. “Nobody informed us about this official letter of the Metropolitan Church. We do not intend to undermine a religion or another by this concert,” Andrei Moldovanu said. According to the information provided at the news conference, there are over 20,000 Adventists in Moldova.
