MP Sergiu Sirbu defected from the Communist Party (PCRM) and its parliamentary group. In a news conference held at Info-Prim Neo on December 12, he said that he no longer identifies himself with this party. Sergiu Sirbu will sit as an independent lawmaker, but does not exclude that he will join a definitely left political organization. “The PCRM was the most coherent political project that ever existed on the Moldovan political arena. But, unfortunately, there were made mistakes, and not few. We did not prevent the loss of our identity. We lost ourselves in all kind of meaningless political struggles. Our latest messages were indistinct and the voters no longer understand what we do, who we are and in what direction we go,” said the lawmaker. According to Sergiu Sirbu, the PCRM could not fully assert itself as an opposition party that should have harshly criticized the government for its actions and proposed solutions to the problems. Instead, the PCRM made inefficient attacks on persons, distancing itself thus from the real needs of the people. “Inside the PCRM there is no more wish for reform and change and the wish to return to power at any cost transforms the party into a political force that radicalizes itself and loses ground before the voters. Throughout this period, many politicians made public their positions in different rankings, but the people are actually not interested in this. They want to have enough bread in the home and not to be cold. One of the serious problems is that they did not manage to create an authentic and strong left,” stated the MP. He also said that six months ago he considered leaving politics as he was becoming estranged from it, but after consulting his friends he decided to continue to struggle. Sergiu Sirbu is the eighth MP who leaves the PCRM during the last year.
