Only persons from the public sector applied for the posts of chairman and deputy chairman of the National Integrity Authority (NIA). Integrity Council member Sergiu Ostaf, in the talk show “Pahomi” on Realitatea TV channel, said the low number of candidates for these posts, by two candidates for each, shows there is distrust in the selection process, IPN reports.
“This means that the people from the private, governmental and media sectors do not have sufficient trust in the given process,” stated Sergiu Ostaf.
According to him, another explanation is the fact that the activity in the two posts is very complicated. “It is a job with a lot of influences that one should resist. There is insufficient experience and there are few functional instruments for protecting the two posts,” said the Integrity Council member.
Sergiu Ostaf also said that the two posts will acquire political undertones at a certain moment and those who will hold them will have to establish relations with politicians in order to ensure the functionality and efficiency of the Authority. “This institution should have sufficient funding to be able to work appropriately. Regretfully, the politicians who take decisions learned to financially decapitate the institution or to impose conditions that can be met with difficulties,” he noted.
