Director of the Resource Center for Human Rights (CReDO) Sergiu Ostaf said civil society realizes that it is impossible to promote the people’s interests without the Government because democracy is built this way. Therefore, civil society must find a suitable formula for cooperating with the Government and its representative, the Prime Minister, IPN reports.
In an interview for Radio Free Europe, the CReDO director said the people who have integrity and expertise and put the organization’s mission and the public interests above everything can take part in a roundtable meeting or in discussions with anyone and see no problem in this. “If we speak about the specific context, the Gaburici Government was installed only for a short period of time, if we say it sincerely. The prospects of this Government are not clear and it is not clear if we can establish durable cooperation with it,” said Sergiu Ostaf.
He also said that time is needed for both of the sides to adjust themselves to a certain situation and to see if an institution is sustainable and functional so as to identify a general cooperation framework, as in the case of the National Participation Council. “In this respect, Prime Minister Gaburici bears responsibility for setting a general cooperation framework. I name it the National Participation Council. Other instruments and cooperation forms can be suggested afterward, but they should not convene ad-hoc meetings to invite us to discuss anticorruption initiatives. I think the approach in this case was unclear,” stated Sergiu Ostaf.
Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici on May 15 convened a meeting with representatives of civil society to discuss the anticorruption initiatives proposed by him with them.
