Canoeist Sergey Tarnovski has won gold in the 5,000 m race at the 2022 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Canada. The victory comes in exactly a year of the winning of bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, IPN reports.

Sergei Tarnovski scored the result of 23:37.85, being followed by Cuba’s Serguey Madrigal (23:37.94) and Germany’s Sebastian Brendel (23:55.18). He also ranked sixth in the 1,000 m race.

In the women’s competition, Maria Olărașu ranked seventh in the 500 m race. The Daniela Cociu – Maria Olărașu pair finished seventh in the 500 m race, scoring the same result as at the Tokyo Olympics. The athletes also competed in the 200 m race were they came sixth.

In the men’s competition, the duo Sergey Tarnovski and Oleg Tarnovski finished tenth in the 500 m race.
