The largest number of violations that resulted in enormous damage to the state were identified by the Audit Office at the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure, the Court’s president Serafim Urechean said in the program “Politics” on TV 7 channel, IPN reports.
According to Urechean, of the total violations of 824 million lei discovered by the Audit Office at budget-funded institutions this year, irregularities to the value of 775 million lei were found at the Ministry of Transport. “Serious violations are committed in the subdivisions of the Ministry. The goods are not included in the accounting records. There is no transparency in the process of holding tender contests. There were identified goods that have been abandoned for 24 years,” he stated.
The president of the Audit Office noted that they also identified cases of appropriation of public funds at this Ministry. “When renovating the roads, they usually use metal curbs made in Moldova, which cost 350 lei per meter. In the accounting documents, the indicated price of curbs is up to 1,000 lei, which is three times higher,” he said.
Serafim Urechean expressed his indignation at the fact that the criminal cases started by the Prosecutor’s Office as a result of the examinations performed by the Audit Office are ‘buried’ by the courts. “We discover very serious violations that cause damage of millions of lei to the budget, but the court either acquits these functionaries or closes ultimately the cases,” he stated.
