The Chisinau Court of Appeal’s sentencing of Ilan Shor is a significant step for justice and the fight against corruption, said the Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the EU Nabila Massrali following the passing of the sentence on April 13, IPN reports.
“The Chisinau Court of Appeal’s sentencing of pro-Kremlin fugitive Ilan Shor to 15 years in prison for the billion dollar bank fraud in 2014 is a significant step for justice and the fight against corruption. The EU will continue supporting Moldova in its reform process,” said the European official.
Fugitive MP Ilan Shor was sentenced to 15 years behind bars in the bank fraud case. By this definitive decision, the Chisinau Appeals Court banned him from holding posts in the banking sector for a period of five years and ordered to levy a sum of 5.2 billion lei on the politician. The lawyers for the leader of the Shor Party said the sentence will be challenged in the Supreme Court of Justice.
