President Maia Sandu is paying a working visit to the Security Zone on Thursday, together with Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian. The officials are scheduled to meet with local authorities, community leaders and residents of affected villages, IPN reports.
According to the Government’s press service, Premier Recean is visiting a number of locations in the area to assess the situation on the spot.
The President’s Office noted that President Sandu will visit schools, kindergartens, a medical center and other important institutions in the area.
"Both the President’s Office and the Government remain firmly committed to identifying the best solutions, to ensuring that all citizens of the Republic of Moldova, regardless of the region in which they live, have access to essential services and benefit from the necessary support in this difficult period," reads a press release.
According to the authorities, the energy crisis caused by Gazprom's decision to interrupt gas supplies to the Transnistrian region has seriously affected a series of localities in the Security Zone of the Republic of Moldova, which are not directly connected to the energy networks on the right bank of the Nistru.
The Commission for Emergency Situations recently ordered the electricity distributor "Premier Energy" to connect the localities of Varnita and Copanca to its network. Also, 14 villages will be integrated into the gas distribution networks of licensed operators of Moldovagaz. The Government also provided humanitarian aid, including fuel reserves and generators, to support residents affected by the energy crisis.
