Security Councils recommends that hospitals are provided with alternative sources of electricity

The Supreme Security Council has advised the Commission for Emergencies Situations to take steps so that hospitals are provided with alternative sources of electricity. This was stated by President Maia Sandu during a press conference following the Council’s meeting, IPN reports.

The CSS also has requested the Commission for Exceptional Situations to take measures for optimizing gas consumption and ensure that the cogeneration power plants CET are provided with the necessary amounts of fuel to generate both heat and electricity. Fuel oil should be also restocked to ensure uninterrupted district heating supply.

President Maia Sandu has asked Moldovans to not let themselves be manipulated and embittered in the moments when they must remain united. Sandu said she is confident that together Moldovans will overcome the complicated situation. Rising gas prices on international markets is an anomaly. It is a severe blow to domestic consumers and the Moldovan economy. “Previous irresponsible governments used energy schemes to fill their own pockets and did nothing to prevent our country from ending up in such an impasse”, declared the president.

In recent weeks, the Government, the President’s Office and Parliament have worked to find solutions. They had telephone talks with the Dmitry Kozak, deputy head of the Russian presidential administration, to facilitate negotiations on an acceptable contract between Moldovagaz and Gazprom. But the crisis has not been overcome and a state of emergency has been declared in the energy sector. Because in October Moldova did not receive the full amount of gas promised by Gazprom, the Moldovan government has started procuring gas from other sources, Maia Sandu added.
