The head of the Functional Diagnosis Section of the Orhei District Hospital Ion Stati succumbed to COVID-19. This is the 24th death due to coronavirus disease 2019 among healthcare workers so far, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, the 57-year-old doctor dedicated his entire professional activity to the Orhei District Hospital. “We render him the last homage and express our sincere condolences to the family, relatives and colleagues,” says a message posted by the Ministry.

The number of infections with the novel coronavirus in Moldova totals 14,200. Of those confirmed with the virus, 2,182 are employees of the healthcare system.

The death toll from COVID-19 now stands at 475. By now, 8,019 persons recovered after contracting the virus.
