Second group of teachers from Moldova goes to Iasi for Romanian language courses

The second group of teachers from Moldova goes to Iasi for Romanian language courses. Fifty-three teachers from ATU Gagauzia, Dubasari, Taraclia, Cahul districts and Balti municipality will attend lectures held by well-known academic personalities and take part in cultural activities that will enrich their professional experience and the desire to be true promoters of Romanian culture and language, state secretary of the Ministry of Education and Research Valentina Olaru stated at an event in the Government Building on Thursday. The program is organized by “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iasi and is scheduled for July 17-31, IPN reports.

Valentina Olaru said that it is a good example of cross-border cooperation in the field of education, a joint commitment of the involved parties to develop language skills and to ensure that what is happening in teaching in the Republic of Moldova is at the highest level.

Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun reminded that the first group of 57 teachers went to a number of universities in Romania and came back with very good impressions. “I’m sure that your two-week experience in Iasi will also be a truly memorable one. We appreciate very much that within this group we not only have Romanian language teachers, as was the case in the first group, but we also have teachers of other subjects who are flirting with the idea of teaching the subject in Romanian or are already doing so. And this is part of our general strategy to promote multilingual education, the attempt to migrate more subjects to schools for nonnative speakers, especially in Gagauzia, in the direction of the Romanian language or in the direction of the Gagauz language,” said the minister.

“It is a beautiful project that I very much want to be continued next year so that we have more places for teachers and academics interested in improving their Romanian language skills in Romania,” said Romania’s Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Cristian-Leon Țurcanu.

The education system of the Republic of Moldova employs about 900 Romanian language teachers who teach in 255 schools for students speaking other languages than Romanian.
