Law enforcement officers on Thursday conducted 45 searches in a case of embezzlement of public funds by decision-makers and employees of the Center of Excellence in Medicine and Pharmacy "Raisa Pacalo". Nine people were classed as suspects and four of them were arrested. These are the director of the institution, the chief accountant, a human resources specialist and a unit head, IPN reports.

The National Anticorruption Center (NAC) said that decision-makers are investigated for fictitiously hiring individuals, who in fact do not show up at the workplace and do not work.

The law enforcement officers gathered evidence regarding the collection of money from students and the rigging of public procurement contests, as well as the favoring of particular economic agents. The use of the institution's resources in the interests of third parties, such as the leasing out of the institution's rooms and equipment for making teeth and dental prostheses, is also investigated.

The four arrested persons and the five suspects are to be escorted to the NAC for questioning.
