Searches at “Lucian Blaga” Lyceum are an attempt to exert pressure

The Moldovan authorities consider that the searches performed by the Transnistrian security forces at the Romanian-language lyceum “Lucian Blaga” in Tiraspol are a new attempt to exert pressure on the institution’s administration, teaching staff, students and parents, IPN reports.

Today, December 5, representatives of the Transnistrian forces went to the lyceum and demanded that principal Ion Iovcev present a set of documents concerning the school’s activity. A report was drawn up and Ion Iovcev was invited to the so-called administrative commission on December 11. According to a communiqué from the Reintegration Office, the events can lead to the worsening of the work conditions of the lyceum and of the atmosphere of confidence between the two banks of the Nstru River.

“These challenges form part of the recent actions of Tiraspol, which has lately carried out a series of illegal searches at the Moldovan-administered, Romanian-language schools,” reads the communiqué.

The constitutional authorities, in concert with the international partners, are monitoring the situation and reiterate the request to Tiraspol to refrain from exerting pressure on the schools teaching based on the Latin scrip in Transnistria as this leads to the worsening of the situation and hinders the smooth running of the education process.
