SDPM urges people in Gagauzia to back Mihail Formuzal at polls
The Social Democratic Party of Moldova (SDPM) considers the candidature of the present mayor of Ceadar Lunga town Mihail Formuzal as the most appropriate for the position of bashkan and urges the population in the Autonomy to support him at the elections set for December 3, shows a press release of the party.
According to the press release, electing Formuzal will show authorities what people think about the policy promoted by the current government, which made Moldova face a great social-economic crisis. As a consequence of this irresponsible policy the relations with the neighboring countries have been deteriorated, especially the relations with the Russian Federation, which would have allowed Moldova to evolve and settle territorial integration issues.
SDPM will respect the option of the Gagauz people and is wiling to open a dialogue between the central power and Gagauzia authorities with an attempt to improve the living standard, protection of fundamental rights and respect of citizens’ stands and opinions.
The Party made an appeal to authorities asking to ensure fair and equitable conditions for the free expression of Gagauzia residents’ choice, observing all democratic principles according to the electoral legislation and international standards.
Four persons applied for the position of head of Gagauzia. The surveys show that the front runners are the incumbent bashkan Gheorghii Tabunscic, supported by the government party, and Mihail Formuzal, who is considered one of the opposition leaders in the region. Nicolai Dudoglo, mayor of Comrat town, and Alexandru Stoianoglo, deputy of general prosecutor of Moldova, joined the electoral race.
