The contest to fill the post of the head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office was initiated following the approval of the draft law that provides for the liquidation of the institution, together with the Prosecutor's Office for Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS), and the creation of the Anticorruption and Organized Crime Prosecutor's Office. The initiative was accepted by the Cabinet and Parliament in the first reading and will be given a final reading. According to the authors of the bill, the initiative comes to strengthen efforts to combat corruption and organized crime by bringing together competences in a unified specialized institution.
Currently, the position of APO chief is held on an interim basis by Marcel Dumbravan. He was appointed as a result of the resignation of Veronica Dragalin, who invoked her wish to stop the liquidation of the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office and that of the PCCOCS.
