SCM president could be elected also from among members who are not judges

The president of the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) could be also elected from among members who are not judges. A bill to amend the Law on the SCM was given a final reading by Parliament, IPN reports.

The legislative proposal was put forward by President Igor Dodon. According to the author, the necessity of drafting such a bill was primarily determined by the Urgent Joint Opinion of the Venice Commission and the Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law of the Council of Europe.

The opportunity of the law resides in the adjustment of the conception concerning the election of the SCM president in accordance with the international standards.
