Schools will be excluded from financing projects if it turns out that they received money from criminal groups

Educational institutions that will accept donations from politicians affiliated to Ilan Shor, who participated in the school year start festivities his year, risk being excluded from the financing projects attracted by the Ministry of Education and Research. They will be replaced by other institutions that also requested to be involved, the Ministry said in a response to a request made by IPN.

“The Ministry of Education and Research condemns the presence at the events held at the beginning of the school year at educational institutions of politicians affiliated with Ilan Shor – a person who was sentenced to 15 years in prison in the ‘bank fraud’ case - and the acceptance of donations from organized criminal groups as these donations come from dubious sources, which have no place in the educational system,” the institution noted.

The Ministry said that it is currently in the process of examining all situations to determine whether these donations were accepted by the managers of educational institutions or persons affiliated to organized criminal groups made only statements of donations and the managers of institutions refused these offers.

The criteria for selecting schools for renovation or equipment, respectively participation in various projects, are decided by each donor, the Ministry of Education noted.

In some schools, this year’s school year start festivities were attended by politicians affiliated to the Shor group, members of “Victory” political bloc, who transmitted gift certificates and donations.
