The cosmetology salon in Chisinau, where a case of death was registered, had, since 2023, a primary authorization to provide non-invasive beauty and body maintenance services. For beauty and beauty services using invasive methods, the National Agency for Public Health has not issued any licenses, IPN reports.
According to the ANSP, the authorized services do not fall under the medical field and are aimed at the maintenance of the human body by various non-invasive methods of care and beautification, with the exception of ultrasound hair removal, which falls under cosmetological procedures with skin damage.
The ANSP states that it took the matter into its own hands on the basis of the information that appeared in the public domain and initiated unannounced inspections at the salon in question. On January 31 and February 3, 2025, the team that went to check the practice found that it was closed.
"ANSP specialists, in collaboration with the control bodies, continue to monitor this case with a view to undertaking the actions provided for by the legislative acts in force," a press release said.
At the same time, during this period, the ANSP has started checks at several beauty parlors and salons to verify the compliance of the objectives with the sanitary requirements in force.
A 35-year-old businesswoman died on 30 January while undergoing a procedure at a beauty salon in the center of the capital. It was reported in the media that it happened as a result of general anesthesia, and the owner of the salon reportedly fled the country shortly after the incident.
At the time, Health Minister Ala Nemerenco came up with a reaction in which she mentioned that the anesthesiologist was the doctor who had previously worked in a public hospital, where an investigation uncovered, in addition to a lot of illegalities, a clandestine department of cosmetological surgery. "The director, who was also the vice-president of a new party with old politicians, was dismissed, the department closed, the staff made redundant and the materials immediately sent to the public prosecutor's office. It's been a while, but there's been no word from the DA's office. The doctor has moved her nest and we see the result," the minister said.
