Russian troops must be withdrawn from Moldova immediately. PM Recean’s message at UN Assembly

The Republic of Moldova wants the Transnistrian conflict to be settled peacefully, with full respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova. This is the message conveyed by Prime Minister Dorin Recean at the 79th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York, the U.S. The official called on the international community to reaffirm the need for the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the Russian troops from the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.

“Ukraine now fights not only for its statehood, for its nation and its existence. It also fights for the freedom of each nation to choose and pursue its own national aspirations. Moldova stands in solidarity with Ukraine in the defense against the Kremlin’s aggression. And we urge the international community to provide all the necessary support to Ukraine in a timely manner,” said Premier Recean.

The Moldovan official also noted that, despite the war on the border, Moldova remains an active and committed contributor to regional security. “We are a reliable partner for our neighbors, Romania and Ukraine, as well as for the European Union. We have maintained peace and security in Moldova. At the same time, we have supported humanitarian efforts by receiving over 1 million Ukrainian refugees,” Dorin Recean stated at the UN rostrum.

He said that the official Chisinau works intensively to ensure Moldova becomes a member of the peaceful and prosperous family of the European Union. The priority actions are aimed at cleaning up the justice system, increasing economic resilience, modernizing infrastructure, ensuring energy security, but also enhancing the capacity of institutions. “We undertook to be ready to join the EU by 2030. Our European path is a matter of vital national interest and the strongest guarantee of peace, democracy and development. On October 20, Moldova will reaffirm its European choice in a referendum, in order to enshrine European integration in our Constitution,” stressed the Prime Minister.

At the end of his speech, Dorin Recean referred to climate change, which also affects the Republic of Moldova, and welcomed the adoption by the UN General Assembly of the Pact for the Future. “We are committed to working alongside the international community to turn these commitments into concrete actions that will shape a better and more resilient world,” he noted.

The 79th session of the UN General Assembly has as its central theme “Unity in diversity, for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for everyone everywhere”.
