The Russian Federation pursues a pro-active policy in Moldova’s Transnistrian region with the enlargement of the EU and NATO. The real political conflict is not between Moldova and Tiraspol, but between Moldova and Russia, while the Parliament of Moldova should adopt a correct approach and show seriousness. Such an opinion was stated by the director of the Independent Institute of Strategic Studies, political analyst Nicolae Chirtoaca in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
“Nothing changed during 20 years. We should draw conclusions from all the periods when the governments tried to settle this conflict,” said Nicolae Chirtoaca. According to him, the current tension in Transnistria is created half artificially by Russia, but the Moldovan politicians will not propose fresh ideas and proactive views for resolving the Transnistrian dispute.
The analyst stated that Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta’s statement that Moldova is ready to riposte in case of an armed conflict is a correct one. For the first time in the last few years, the minister had the courage to protect the country’s integrity. However, some of the political parties, instead of being preoccupied with this essential problem of Moldova, make a political show.
Politologist Vasile Croitoru said that Russia regards Transnistria as an instrument for blocking the enlargement of the EU and NATO. It considers that at a certain moment, Transnistria may serve as a piece of exchange in the serious talks between Russia and the EU or NATO.
