It has been 26 years of the start of the Nistru armed conflict, but the war isn’t yet over. The war will end when the left side of the Nistru is fully integrated into the right bank, security expert Rosian Vasiloi stated in the program “People’s Council” on 10TV channel, IPN reports.
Rosian Vasiloi said those who are in power now do not pay the required attention to the Nistru war veterans. “We remember the veterans on the eve of March 2, but what do these veterans do the rest of the period?” asked the analyst. According to him, the negotiations on the settlement of the conflict should be held with Russia and this is possible.
Anatolie Caraman, chairman of the 1992 Tiras-Tighina War Veterans Association, said training and military maneuvers take place on the left side of the Nistru as part of the preparations for war. “We should find a mechanism to persuade the people to reunite with the motherland and to enter into the large economy of the big country called Romania. Only then will we be able to change the lifestyle,” said Anatolie Caraman. He added that no matter how many reforms the Moldovan government does, the Russian secret services anyway work in Moldova and stage different provocations.
Ex-MP Stefan Uritu said that when the Soviet Union fell apart, the munitions of the 14th Army should have been left to the Republic of Moldova. This was the reason why the war started.
The Nistru war for defending the integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova started on March 2, 1992. The war involved about 30,000 Moldovans. This claimed the lives of 300 combatants and over 400 civilians, with several hundred people being injured. Moldova and Russia signed a ceasefire agreement on July 21, 1992.
