The head of the General Border Police Inspectorate Rosian Vasiloi was classed as a suspect in the criminal case regarding the murder in aggravating circumstances at the airport, which was started by the Prosecutor’s Office, IPN reports.
In a posting on his Facebook page, the Border Police chief said that on Monday he was handed over the relevant order. The prosecutor didn’t consider it necessary to suspend him from post. Even so, he will present a report and will ask for unpaid leave for a period of over 30 days.
“As the manager of the institution and with the dignity of an officer, I strongly believe that it is essential to contribute for the investigation body to collect all the proofs and to conduct the investigation so as to clarify all the circumstances of the case and the made accusations,” wrote Rosian Vasiloi.
He transmitted his condolences to the families of the victims of the shooting incident at the Chisinau International Airport and assured the citizens that regardless of the circumstances, the security and integrity of Moldova’s borders remains a priority.
A border guard and an airport security officer were killed at the Chisinau International Airport on June 30, 2023 after a citizen of Tajikistan who was banned entry into Moldova fired at them after grabbing the firearm of the first. The individual was hurt during the siege and died in the hospital several days later. The body was repatriated to Tajikistan by his relatives.
