Romgaz plans to set up subsidiary in Chisinau

The state-owned company Romgaz, the largest producer and main supplier of natural gas in Romania, intends to supply natural gas to the Republic of Moldova as well, by setting up a subsidiary in Chisinau. The intention comes after Chisinau asked Bucharest for access to purchases from the future production of Neptun Deep, IPN reports, with reference to the Romanian press.

The agenda of the Romgaz General Shareholders' Meeting at the end of next month is an initiative to approve the establishment and registration in the State Register of Legal Entities of the Republic of Moldova of the limited liability company "Romgaz Furnizare M SRL", based in the municipality of Chisinau.

According to the document, the sale of gaseous fuels through the pipeline will be the company's main activity.

The Republic of Moldova asked Romania to guarantee access to purchases of gas from the production of the largest offshore exploitation in the Romanian Black Sea, Neptun Deep. There, production is expected to start in 2027, and the concessionaires are OMV Petrom and Romgaz, with equal participations of 50% each.

The two partners in Neptun Deep accounted for over 60% in the natural gas imports of the Republic of Moldova in the first 9 months of 2024, according to data from the dominant trader in Romania.
