Romania's Presidential Elections scheduled for May 4

The Romanian government in Bucharest has set the date for the new presidential elections, which will take place on May 4. It was also decided that Romanians in the diaspora will be able to vote on all three days, starting at 7:00 AM. Previously, polling stations opened at noon on Friday, the first day of voting, IPN reports.

On the final voting day, Sunday, diaspora voters will no longer be able to cast their ballots after polling stations close in Romania.

Two days before the second round, Romania's Constitutional Court annulled the presidential election initiated on November 24, deciding that the entire process would be restarted from scratch. The judges stated that "the electoral process for electing the President of Romania was compromised throughout its course and at all stages by numerous irregularities and violations of electoral legislation, which distorted the free and fair nature of the vote expressed by citizens, as well as the equal opportunities of the electoral competitors. These issues affected the transparency and fairness of the electoral campaign".
