Romania’s National Day marked in Chisinau

Members of the civic movement “Moldova’s Youth” came together in the center of Chisinau on December 1 to mark the National Day of Romania. The young people went on a symbolic march to the Embassy of Romania, where they opened simultaneously dozens of umbrellas, raising them above the head.

The movement’s leader Dinu Plangau has told IPN that this crowd of umbrellas represents a protection shield that the Moldovans need to defend themselves from internal enemies that are financed by foreign services and from external enemies that threaten to repeat the Ukrainian scenario in Moldova, with Romania being the only guarantor that can provide security to the Moldovans.

According to the organizers, by such an event, the young people want to tell the authorities and the people from the two countries that union means security, while the future of all the residents of Moldova is decided now because our decisions from the next few months will affect our lives in the long term.

“We all follow the crisis in Ukraine and see that Russia is trying to impose its political games in the immediate vicinity. If we are under the umbrella of Romania, we will benefit first of all from security,” stated Anatol Ursu, a volunteer of the civic movement “Moldova’s Youth”.

Romania’s National Day has been marked since December 1, 1990.
