A man from the Republic of Moldova will stand trial on charges that he helped persons to illegally obtain Romanian nationality. At the start of 2016, he, serving as the manager of a private company, together with his partners asked for and received €37,000 from a family of Russian citizens for facilitating the obtaining of Romanian nationally and appropriated €27,000 of this sum, IPN reports.
According to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, the manager of the private company, who pretended to be providing legal consultancy services, and his partners said they have influence on public persons of the Consulate of Romania in Ukraine and the National Authority for Citizenship of Romania and asked for money as a result.
Consequently, the applicants obtained Romanian nationality with the transcription of the birth and marriage certificates in the Civil Status Register of Romania and the issuing of Romanian passports that were collected last August.
The culprit admitted his blame. If this is found guilty, he will be fined 150 000 to 300 000 lei or will be jailed for two to seven years. The man’s tangible and intangible assets were sequestrated.
This June the anticorruption prosecutors sent to court the criminal cases against the four accomplices of the man. These are being examined by the ordinary courts of law.
