Romanian Constitution should take into account relations with Moldova when defining citizenship, presidential advisor
In defining citizenship, the Romanian Constitution should take into account the relationship with the Republic of Moldova, and the approach to its citizens should be redefined, said Cristian Preda, advisor to Romanian President Traian Basescu, during debates on the constitutional amending process on Wednesday, Agerpres reported.
According to the presidential advisor, the constitutional definition of citizenship should be made not just from a juridical perspective, but also from a “strongly political” position.
“My opinion is that, in defining the status of the citizen, we should take into account the relationship with Moldova, and consider a possible redefinition of the approach to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, including in the European context”, declared Preda.
The debates on the amendment of the Romanian Constitution, which took place in Bucharest on Wednesday, were organized by the Popular Study Institute (ISP) and the Institutional Development Research Center (CADI).
