Roma community states support for candidate Igor Dodon

Representatives of the International Foundation “Baronul Mircea Cerari” calls on the people not to be indifferent to the country’s fate and to vote actively in the presidential elections of November 1. According to them, the Roma community will support Igor Dodon, who runs for a new term in office, because he and the Party of Socialists offered them support and became involved in solving the problems they face.

In a news conference at IPN, the president of the International Foundation “Baronul Mircea Cerari” Artur Cerari said that each citizen’s vote in the upcoming elections is very important for  the future development of the Republic of Moldova, which is a multiethnic state. “We care about the fate of this piece of land because our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up here. Sincerely, we do not need too many things. Everything is for our children, for the coming generations. I really want the young people who went abroad to return home. We should create jobs, ensure education and all the other things. We must develop and have good relations with the East and with the West,” stated the baron of the Roma.

“Yes, I am the baron of the Roma from all over Moldova and I will vote for candidate Igor Nicolaevici Dodon. None of the previous Presidents lent us, the Roma in the Republic of Moldova, a hand as his party did and he did. We hope our cooperation will continue. He, as the leader of the nation, the leader of our country, will offer assistance to our community, the Roma, and to all the nations that live on the territory of the Republic of Moldova,” stated Artur Cerari.

Petru Baranciuc, of the International Roma Union in Moldova, spoke about the reasons why the Roma community decided to support Igor Dodon so that he wins a new term in office. The Romanies face many problems. They tried to cooperate with all the parties and there were multiple action plans for integrating the Roma, but these were good on paper only. Those actions didn’t have financial backing and no responsible officials were designated. Even if the Roma supported more parties, later these ignored the community and they thus decided to support only those who will lend a hand.

According to Petru Baranciuc, the Party of Socialists acted without being asked. Over 50 community mediators were employed, being paid with state budget funds. There were named two advisers to the Prime Minister who are responsible for dealing with Romanies’ problems.
