The raising of fuel price ceilings generated debates in Parliament. The Liberal group requested to question the director of the National Agency for Energy Regulation (NAER) Tudor Copaci. The proposal was supported by the Liberal-Democratic and Socialist MPs, but didn’t garner the number of votes needed for being included in the agenda, IPN reports.
Liberal MP Alina Zotea said the NAER earlier this week announced an unprecedented rise in the fuel price ceilings, which will generate increases in the prices of other services and products. The farmers are also affected as they now perform intense works.
Socialist MP Vladimir Golovatiuc stated that the Socialist group suggests questioning the NAER director and the minister of economy and infrastructure. The price ceilings for gasoline and diesel fuel have grown since February and the rise until now is of 2 lei per liter on average.
Lib-Dem Vadim Pistrinciuc said hearings should be held to clarify the situation concerning fuel prices and the global tendencies and to decide the measures that will be taken to alleviate the effect of rises, especially on farmers.
Democratic MP Corneliu Dudnic noted the fuel prices rise not only in Moldova, but in the European states as well. In Germany, the fuel prices increased by 20 eurocents during the past three weeks and the MPs should not mislead the population.
When put to the vote, the proposal to organize hearings could not secure the necessary number of votes.
During two days, over 1,000 persons announced their intention to take part in a march against the increase in fuel prices staged by AutoLife Moldova. The event will take place in the central square of Chisinau on June 2, starting at 10am. Fuel price ceilings have been raised for several weeks in a row. Until June 12, the ceilings will be 19.79 lei per liter of gasoline ‘95’ and 17.75 lei per litter of diesel fuel.
