Restoration works of Chisinau Circus under way

Works to restore the roof of the Chisinau Circus Building have started. These are projected to be completed by the end of 2023, depending on the weather conditions and other factors, such as the supply of raw material given that the supply chains were disrupted by the multiple crises faced in the region, IPN reports, with reference to UNDP Moldova.

In parallel, further conservation works will be carried out, to prevent further deterioration of the building. The company responsible for these works was selected by tender. A competition was also announced to select the company that will execute the works to replace the vitrified façade of Block A of the Circus.

The Chisinau Circus Building has a special architectural value and in May 2022 was included in the Register of State-Protected Monuments. The Circus building will be restored and conserved according to national and international standards.

According to estimates, over €11 million are needed to fully restore the building and make the Circus functional again. The next restoration phases will be funded either from the national budget and/or by additional donor funding.

The restoration and conservation works are carried out with support from the EU Confidence Building Measures Program, implemented by UNDP Moldova.
