Requirements introduced for biomass products

The products from biomass must meet certain requirements as regards labeling and placement. The Government on December 4 approved the regulations that define these conditions. Deputy Minister of Economy Tudor Copaci said that until now Moldova didn’t have such regulations. Thus, in some cases the producers included in briquettes substances that reduced the energy efficiency of the biofuel, IPN reports.

If the quality of products does not meet the characteristics on the label, the consumer will be able to inform the Consumer Protection Agency and the producers will be penalized.

In the December 4 meeting, the Government also approved the bill on energy labeling. Under it, the products used in the home must contain a label with information about the volume of energy consumed by them.

“According to statistics, 83% of the households have fridges, 11.3% have microwave ovens, 18.5% have a computer, while 29.8% have a washing machine. Imagine how much energy the people will be able to save if they know how efficient the devices are,” said Tudor Copaci.

Currently, the household users in Moldova account for 45% of the energy consumption, as against 25% in the EU.
