Republic of Moldova – country with high political and economic risk, according to Aon and Oxford Analytica
The American insurance company Aon and the English consultancy company Oxford Analytica, specialized in political and economic analysis placed Moldova in the last report “2006 Political & Economic Risk” in the list of countries with a high political and economic risk.
Among the European countries only Albania and the Republic of Moldova are placed in the category of high risk.
Aon mentions that the term “high risk” means the fact that the political, economic and ecologic environment can change spontaneously, affecting the business of companies involved in the international trade area. The companies can be exposed to discriminatory actions or to be deprived of the protection of the countries were they activate.
According to the research, in 2006, the main possible risks regarding the Republic of Moldova are economic instability, fluctuation of the currency, the sovereign non-payment, and political interference.
The European countries that were placed in the list of medium high risk countries after Moldova and Albania are Ukraine, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro. Russia, Romania and Bulgaria are consideret to be medium risk countries.
The Aon rating is used not only for calculating the cost of the insurances, but is also a decision instrument for foreign investors and companies involved in the international commerce.
