Tiraspol Mayor Oleg Dovgopol, who was reportedly arrested on Friday, took part in an online meeting to discuss "greening". The regional press reports that the teleconference was attended by the heads of several "state" structures, as well as the region's leader Vadim Krasnoselski, IPN reports.
Sources in Tiraspol told IPN that Oleg Dovgopol was detained because of disagreements the mayor allegedly had with the so-called president of the region, Vadim Krasnoselsky.
The two Tiraspol dignitaries are said to have disagreed over economic interests, sources in the mayor's office said. They explained to the agency that "there has been no official announcement about Dovgopol's arrest, but they admitted the hypothesis of economic misunderstandings, that is, that it was not a global issue, but a purely technical one. Meanwhile, "an interim mayor has already been appointed in Tiraspol", the source said.
Representatives of the Transnistrian militia confirmed the information that "Mayor Oleg Dovgopol was detained on Friday due to direct disagreements with the leader of the Transnistrian region, Vadim Krasnoselski". The mayor was reportedly released the next day.
