Renault, Toyota and Ford are among Moldovans' favorite imported cars

Most cars imported into the Republic of Moldova last year were of Renault, Toyota and Ford brands. Moldovans' preferences have not undergone essential changes compared to ten years ago, when Toyota, Dacia and Renault were among the top three favorite car makes, according to data provided by the Public Services Agency (PSA) following an inquiry made by IPN. In 2024, 75,700 units of transport were brought into Moldova, of which 54,000 were cars. The number of imported cars was twice higher compared to 2018.

In the top ten imported cars in 2024 are BMW, Skoda, Dacia, Volkswagen, Mercedes, Peugeot and Volvo. According to the PSA, among other means of transport registered last year were trucks – 9,400 units, motorcycles – 6,600, trailers – 2,900, tractors – 2,300 and busses - about 400.

According to the Customs Service's 2024 database, as ten years ago, most of the vehicles were brought from Germany, followed by Poland, the U.S., and France. Ten years ago, most cars were imported from Germany, Poland, Belarus, and the Netherlands.

The largest number of transport units imported last year had an operating age of five to ten years – over 28,500 units. Over 19,300 vehicles were up to 5 years old, and 6,200 were over 10 years old.

As for the type of fuel, most of the imported cars were diesel cars – 26,000, followed by gasoline cars – 13,600, and hybrid vehicles – 10,800. About 1,700 imported vehicles were electric cars.

Most of the electric cars imported in 2024 were of Tesla make, followed by Nissan and Volkswagen. Other electric cars were of such well-known brands as BYD, Renault, BMW, Audi, Volvo, Hyundai, and Honda.

Of the total number of vehicles, over 46,300 belong to individuals, and 7,600 are owned by legal entities.
