Neutrality and mutually beneficial relations with all are the guarantee of Moldova’s security, said Renato Usatyi, a presidential election candidate nominated by Our Party. The politician believes that only authentic sovereignty can ensure peace in the state and that it is not necessary to join NATO, IPN reports.
“In Moldova, we don’t need NATO at all, but the presence of the Russian army is not necessary either. I have always supported the status of neutrality and, seeing what is happening in Ukraine, I convinced myself that I am right, that we do not need either an American military base in Mărculești or a Russian military base. To believe that NATO membership will solve all the problems is the same thing that the unionists say – that in order to increase pensions and salaries we just need to unite with Romania. If we remove the border between the poor and the rich, it does not mean that the poor will immediately live well. Such a thing does not happen!,” Renato Usatyi says in a post on Facebook.
The candidate reiterated that the military presence will not bring anything good, expressing his conviction that neutrality is the main guarantee for Moldova. “Today, over 65% of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova are against the entry into NATO and I have no right to go against the will of two-thirds of our citizens,” he stated.
Renato Usatyi is under No. 3 on the ballot. He was registered as a presidential election candidate by the Central Election Commission on September 18.
