Remittances top USD 600 mln in 9 months
The remittances wired by Moldovan citizens working abroad amounted to approximately USD 604 mln in nine months of this year, compared to USD 500 mln reported in the similar period of last year.
Independent estimates show that besides official remittances, Moldovan citizens working abroad sent home about USD 300 mln, so that the total sum of the transfers could reach USD 900 mln. For the fourth trimester of this year, experts forecast total remittances worth USD 300 million, while the total annual sum would be at least of USD 1.2 billion.
Official statistics show that in 2005 Moldovan citizens wired via bank transfers about USD 683.25 mln. In 2004 this figure totaled to USD 422.41 mln, in 2003 – USD 317.29 mln, in 2002 – USD 254.12 mln, in 2001 – USD 211.99 mln, in 2000 – USD 152.94 mln and in 1999 – USD 89.62 mln.
The rapid transfer systems as Western Union, Money Gram, Anelik, Migom etc. are ranging among the main official transfer networks.
Sixteen rapid transfer systems are present on Moldova’s market in all.
