Relevant institutions still formulate position on halt in gas supplies to Transnistria

The relevant institutions have not yet formulated their stance on the interruption of gas supplies to Moldova’s Transnistrian region. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, neither the Government nor Moldova Gaz could say if the halt in gas supplies to Transnistria will affect the other settlements of Moldova. "I cannot yet comment on the situation. We know no details,” said Valentin Toma, department head at Moldova Gaz. "I cannot comment because we do not know the details, but Moldova Gaz is to issue a press release soon,” said Vitalie Condratchi, the Government’s spokesman. According to Condratchi, the Government will make its position known today, between 18.30 and 19.00. According to the information provided by Info-Prim Neo’s correspondent in Tiraspol, Ukraine blocked the natural gas supplies to the Transnistrian region on Tuesday, January 6. The region’s gas reserves will be enough for two days only. The announcement was made by Nicolai Mitinschi, the director general of Tiraspoltransgaz. Mitinschi said that the Transnistrian authorities informed Gazprom and Moldova Gaz about the incident.
