The initiative groups for supporting candidates for President can file documents for being registered to the Central Election Commission (CEC) as of September 1, IPN reports.

Under the Election Code, the initiative groups for supporting candidates for President must consist of at least 25 persons and at most 100 persons with the right to vote. The group is formed as a result of an assembly where the candidate for President of the Republic of Moldova is nominated, the group leader is chosen and the list of group members is approved. The initiative group can support only one candidate for President. The members of the initiative group cannot be simultaneously members of another initiative group.

The CEC noted the documents can be submitted to its head office at 119 V. Alecsandri St, office 202, on September 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, between 9am and 5pm and on September 5 and 6, between 10am and 4pm.

The CEC within three days examines the file and takes a decision as to the registration or non-registration of the initiative group.

Each election runner can start to campaign only after they are registered by the CEC.
