Moldovan chefs assisted by foreign colleagues on Wednesday set an international record by cooking a giant mamaliga, a traditional dish made of boiled cornmeal, with meat stew and vegetable ragout for 2,000 people, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Roman Friptu, the chef supervising the project, said 30 kilograms of cornmeal and 6 large cast iron pots were used to boil the mamaliga. For the stew and ragout, the chefs used 4,000 sausages, 30 liters of oil, 50 kilograms of onion, 50 kilograms of bell peppers and 100 kilograms of mushrooms. It took them more than two hours to cook this food.
The event was formally registered as an international record by certified specialists from Romania.
200 portions of the mamaliga with stew were sent to an orphanage, 200 other to a nursing home, and the remainder was shared among the event's guests and participants.
The event was part of the 3rd International Gastronomy Championship Moldova, which started on November 1 and will end on November 4.
