Reality in Moldova is harsher than ENEMO Mission report shows, opinion

The interim report presented by the ENEMO Mission is neutral, but the reality in the Republic of Moldova is now harsher than this report shows. Nevertheless, the international observers note very important things based on which the citizens can draw conclusions before the parliamentary elections of February 24. The opinions were stated in the program “Expertise hour” on Jurnal TV channel, IPN reports.

Political commentator Alexandr Petkov said it can be already seen that the so-called electoral process is compromised and leads to the gross falsification of its results. “We cannot speak now about a democratic electoral process, a democratic exercise as it should be. We cannot speak about the people’s participation in the decision-making process through elections as these are not elections. What the observer say clearly reveals these shortcomings. I don’t know what the ambassadors expect at present,” stated the commentator.

Former Chisinau councilor Oleg Cernei said the report of the ENEMO Mission is neutral. The observers are very attentive to details. The people now actually witnesses the dirtiest electoral campaign and massive corruption of voters. “There are several election contestants who openly bribe the voters. We every day see cars with people with bags in district centers or people who are brought by minibuses to the Orhei mayor’s office at nocturnal hours, where people from the mayor’s office go out with bags and no state institution takes measures, either the Central Election Commission or the law enforcement agencies, and this is indescribable. I think we witness an orchestration between this  “trio-duo” – the PDM, PSRM and PPȘ,” stated Oleg Cernei. According to him, many employees of public institutions are afraid to publish conclusive evidence.

Former MP Mihail Druță said one of the findings of the observers refers to uninominal constituencies. None of the constituencies in the country, except for those from Gagauzia and the municipality of Chisinau, respect the borders of the territorial administrative units. “The documents on electoral matters of the Venice Commission demand that these borders should be respected. In Moldova, it is known that the constancies were formed so as to satisfy the wishes of a particular ruling party,” he stated.

“The report signals the distribution of electoral presents and such cases are so evident that, if the law had ruled in Moldova and corruption hadn’t governed, such a party with the name Shor wouldn’t have been added to the electoral list,” said Mihail Druță.

In a news conference at IPN on February 4, representatives of the ENEMO Mission said ENEMO uses this opportunity to condemn all attacks against election contestants and candidates, as well as any other attempt to prevent electoral and relevant non-electoral stakeholders to organize, participate, monitor, or report on the  electoral process.
